A modern digital implementation of the traditional African strategy game Morabaraba — built with the ambition of making it a globally recognised strategy game: Africa's chess. The project combines cultural heritage, software engineering and modern mobile product development.
Data. AI. Technology.
Built for real-world impact.
I lead enterprise data capabilities, build digital products and explore how artificial intelligence is changing the way organisations work.
Strategy is only useful when it can be executed.
My career has evolved from quantitative analysis and business intelligence into broader data and technology leadership.
Today, I work across enterprise data strategy, governance, engineering, analytics, visualisation, automation and artificial intelligence.
But I also enjoy building.
I write code, experiment with emerging AI tools, develop applications and explore how new technologies can solve practical problems. That combination — strategic leadership and hands-on technical curiosity — shapes how I approach technology.
Head of Data Management
My role sits between business strategy, enterprise technology and execution. The objective is not simply to produce reports. It is to create the data foundations, platforms, governance and capabilities that allow an organisation to make better decisions.
From data foundations
to intelligent products.
Six disciplines, one ecosystem. Each layer depends on the one beneath it.
Data Leadership
Creating data strategies, operating models, roadmaps and teams that connect technology investment with organisational priorities.
Data Management & Governance
Building the structures that make enterprise data trusted, usable and accountable.
Analytics & Business Intelligence
Transforming operational and business data into information that supports better decisions.
Data Engineering
Designing the pipelines and platforms required to move, transform and operationalise data.
Artificial Intelligence
Exploring practical enterprise adoption of AI rather than AI for its own sake.
Software & Digital Products
I also build software. My development work allows me to stay close to implementation rather than approaching technology purely from a management perspective.

Things I've built,
led and explored.
Enterprise Data Management
Leading the development of enterprise data capabilities covering governance, engineering, integration, analytics, visualisation and data platforms.
Aviation Operational Analytics
Developing analytics and reporting capabilities that transform operational aviation data into measurable performance indicators and decision-support information.
Enterprise AI Exploration
Exploring how enterprise AI can be deployed securely within organisational environments, including commercial and self-hosted models, infrastructure requirements, governance and practical use cases.
NHBRC Exam Preparation Platform
A digital learning product that helps users prepare for NHBRC-related examinations with practice questions and mock tests, available on the web, iOS and Android.
Mitto
A hyperlocal food-delivery platform in development: customer app, rider app, restaurant interface and admin portal, designed with card-first payments and a hybrid rider model.
Dwellr
A property-management software concept designed to simplify operational workflows through a modern digital platform.
Vowel Thief
A daily word-puzzle game powered by a programmatic content pipeline: a 370,000-word dictionary is filtered for frequency, collisions and proper nouns down to a validated pool of about 9,000 words, producing hundreds of daily puzzles, each gated by an independent validator. Live on the App Store, and on Google Play as Vowel Heist, with an Adventure Mode roadmap in progress.
Chess Hive
South Africa's platform for managing chess tournaments, clubs and players, built for schools, clubs, organisers and competitive players across the country.
Building a software company
from South Africa.
Alongside my work at ATNS, I founded and lead Mahlangu Elites (TME Group), a Midrand-based company spanning business intelligence consulting and software and app development, trusted by 40+ clients.
On the software side, the goal is simple: build, operate and grow useful digital products with reliable user experiences and sustainable revenue.
Owning a product portfolio keeps me honest. I make the trade-offs, carry the roadmap and feel what shipping actually costs.

AI is changing how knowledge work gets done.
My interest in AI is primarily practical. I am interested in how organisations can use AI to improve software development, analytics, research, productivity and decision-making without ignoring governance, security, privacy and data sovereignty. I actively experiment with modern AI-assisted development and agentic workflows in real codebases.
Governance
Designing an enterprise AI acceptable-use framework: which tools are approved, restricted or prohibited, and how new tools are assessed.
Sovereignty
Evaluating AI platform options that keep organisational data under South African control, with POPIA in mind.
Evaluation
Comparing open-weight and commercial language models for enterprise use, across capability, cost, security and hosting options.
Agentic building
Running real software projects with multi-agent crews: a manager agent coordinating specialist subagents across Claude Code, Codex and Hermes.
From analytics to
enterprise technology leadership.
- 01Teaching MathematicsAfter my BSc I taught Grade 10 and 11 Mathematics, learning to explain complex ideas clearly and simply.
- 02BI DevelopmentI started in business intelligence as an intern at Standard Bank, then built Qlik and Power BI solutions for enterprise clients at Entelect.
- 03Analytics & AutomationAs a Senior Analyst at Standard Bank I built data pipelines and automated reporting, cutting manual effort by up to 40%.
- 04Leading Analytics TeamsI managed Standard Bank's Affluent Portfolio analytics team, delivering dashboards, forecasting and clustering models for executives.
- 05Risk BI StrategyAt FNB I led the Risk BI strategy as Business Intelligence Manager, running BI and customer screening teams on Teradata.
- TODAYHead of Data ManagementLeading the ATNS data team across BI, data engineering and Power Platform in safety-critical aviation, while exploring how AI can become a practical enterprise capability.
Technology leadership is also people leadership.
A significant part of my work involves helping teams understand not only what needs to be built, but why.
I lead a data team spanning BI, data engineering, Power Platform and more, and I mentor junior professionals, technical specialists and managers across areas such as data, analytics, KPIs, decision-making, technology, AI and problem solving.
I care about how teams are built as much as what they build. Hiring is structured and evidence-based: consistent questions, transparent scoring and decisions I can explain. And I delegate delivery while staying accountable for the architecture and the outcome.
My approach to leadership was shaped early. I taught Mathematics to Grade 10 and 11 learners and co-founded a tutoring business. Teaching taught me that people rarely resist a hard idea. They resist an unclear one.
“People rarely resist a hard idea. They resist an unclear one.”
Clarity over complexity
People should understand where they are going and why.
Ownership over dependency
Strong teams should be capable of making decisions.
Practical learning
Skills are developed by solving real problems.
Technology with purpose
A new tool is only valuable when it improves an outcome.
Technology I work with

Ideas I'm thinking about
Thoughts on the technologies reshaping data, software and organisations.
Data Before AI
Why organisations rushing toward AI still need to solve fundamental data-management problems.
In progressAI and Data Sovereignty in South Africa
Keeping organisational data within national control: what POPIA, cloud regions and governance controls mean for enterprise AI.
In progressRunning a Software Studio with AI Agent Crews
What happens when a manager agent coordinates specialist subagents across real product codebases: what works, what breaks and where humans still decide.
In progressThe common thread is curiosity.
Curiosity took me from mathematics and analytics into business intelligence, enterprise data, software and now AI. Sometimes that means designing an enterprise data capability. Sometimes it means experimenting with an AI agent, or building a mobile app from scratch.
And before all of it, I was a teacher. I taught Mathematics and co-founded a tutoring business. Explaining hard ideas clearly is still the skill I use most.
Let's build something
meaningful.
I enjoy conversations around data, artificial intelligence, technology leadership, digital products and the future of enterprise technology.
